Apple has moved its Worldwide Developers Conference to San Jose to get more space, having outgrown the Moscone West Conference Center in San Francisco. The WWDC event gets ever more popular, with tickets sold out in minutes in previous years. The news of the change of venue was announced on the Worldwide Developers Conference site, and in emails to registered developers today. This year's conference will take place from June 5 - 9 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.
While attendees have been fans of the Moscone West Convention Center, it has been increasingly too small for the would-be attendees, to the point where last year's keynote had to be moved to the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium to let everyone get a seat. The San Jose venue is much larger, hopefully ensuring more tickets available for developers. The tickets will be made available on Monday, March 27. Ticket registration will be opened first to developers who are already registered members of the Apple Developer Program and Apple Developer Enterprise Program as of today, February 16. Once registration has been open for some time, Apple will perform a random draw to work out who will actually get to attend. Those attending will be charged $1,599 for their ticket. The conference is also live-streamed through the Apple Developer website () and on the WWDC app for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Apple promises access to more than 1,000 Apple engineers with opportunities to meet and engage with them throughout the conference. There will be the usual array of developer-focussed sessions and workshops, once the opening day keynote is out of the way. Apple usually unveils its latest versions of MacOS, iOS, watchOS and tvOS at the conference. This year may well also see Apple show off an enhanced version of its personal assistant software Siri, following Apple's acquisition of Australian machine learning and artificial intelligence startup Turi last year.
