Google has contributed another free course on the Udacity platform. At intermediate level, it comprises six lessons and should take about two months to complete and is for those who are already comfortable with Object Oriented Programming and Android fundamentals with Kotlin.

Announcing the new course last week at the Android Developer Summit and in the blog post Advanced Android with Kotlin by Google!, Udacity's  David Harris lead content strategist writes:

Since 2016, Udacity and Google have worked together to build 17 free courses and two full Nanodegree programs related to Android development. To date, more than 3.8 million students have enrolled in Udacity’s Android courses to kick off careers in Android development.

Advanced Android With Kotlin is a further rung on this ladder and is intended for developers who have mastered the basics of building an Android app in Kotlin and want to dive deeper into advanced functionality.

As its lead instructors, Aleks Haecky and Sean McQuillan, put it in this video, this latest course can be considered "the sequel" to the Udacity Kotlin Bootcamp and Developing Android Apps with Kotlin which they already teach and which are also free.

As they explain, students who follow their less will learn how to create and clip custom views, draw directly to a canvas, and add animations to your apps.  They will also add maps to apps and learn to style them. Testing an app is as important as building it, so the course covers testing apps to catch and fix bugs so that users never see them. The final module is on how to let users log in to your app with their existing accounts.

This course is billed as an excellent supplement to the Android Developer Nanodegree program and if you want to know more about what that entails we have the full inside story from Nikos Vaggalis.
