Google is offering a 5-Day Gen AI Intensive Course designed to equip data scientists with the knowledge and skills to tackle generative AI projects with confidence. It runs on the Kaggle platform from Monday, November 11 to Friday, November 15 with a time commitment of around 3 hours per day.

You may think of Kaggle as being the place where data scientists go to compete for cash prizes for solving difficult problems. That's right but it's just the tip of the iceberg. It's also a good place for beginners in machine learning as it provides educational resources by way of tutorials, courses, and learning materials to help users improve their data science skills. In this instance however the topic is Generative AI and the level of interest is bound to be high among Kaggle's global community of over 15 million users in 194 countries.

The five-day program for the online course  is as follows:

  • Day 1: Foundational Models & Prompt Engineering
Explore the evolution of LLMs, from transformers to techniques like fine-tuning and inference acceleration. Get trained with the art of prompt engineering for optimal LLM interaction.
  • Day 2: Embeddings and Vector Stores/Databases
Learn about the conceptual underpinning of embeddings and vector databases, including embedding methods, vector search algorithms, and real-world applications with LLMs, as well as their tradeoffs.
  • Day 3: Generative AI Agents
Learn to build sophisticated AI agents by understanding their core components and the iterative development process.
  • Day 4: Domain-Specific LLMs
Delve into the creation and application of specialized LLMs like SecLM and Med-PaLM, with insights from the researchers who built them.
  • Day 5: MLOps for Generative AI
Discover how to adapt MLOps practices for Generative AI and leverage Vertex AI's tools for foundation models and generative AI applications.

The course is hosted on the Kaggle platform and will consist of daily assignments - reading newly published white papers and listening to a podcast with companion code provided in AI Studio. To make this an interactive experience Kaggle’s Discord server will have a dedicated channel for focused discussion on the daily content for further clarification. The Google’s ML researchers and engineers who have authored and contributed to the course will also go live everyday on Kaggle's YouTube channel to dive deeper into the topics and answer your questions. They also hint at fun surprises ... to keep the learning engaging. These livestreams, of about 45-60 minutes, will be recorded and registrants will be sent them in case they can't view them in realtime.

To participate you need both a Kaggle account and an AI Studio account. Both are free but you'll need to sign in with an email address. The course won't award a Kaggle certificate of earn Kaggle points but participants with receive a badge on their Kaggle profile upon course completion.

The course FAQ's state:

This course is for anyone looking to more deeply understand the fundamentals of Generative AI. There are no firm prerequisites but knowing a bit of Python will help you get the most out of the codelabs and some experience with basic Generative AI concepts like prompting will help accelerate reading comprehension.

By way of preparation there are two recommendations -  the Intro to Programming (in Python) course which is a 5-hour course for those with no coding experience and the Introduction to Generative AI micro-course from Google Cloud which includes this video:

If you are keen on badges you can earn one in 3 hours or less with this course by successfully taking a 5-question quiz with a pass score of 80%.

The intensive course sounds like a lot of fun and well worth reserving time for next week.
