Udacity, in partnership with React training has launched a new Nanodegree program for React, the open source JavaScript library from Facebook. The first presentation starts June 27th and enrollment opens today. As Ian Elliot wrote in his recent tutorial (the first of a series) The Programmers Guide To React: React seems to be taking over the web frontend On I Programmer we have reported on the meteoric rise of this JavaScript library for building user interfaces that started life at Facebook and was open sourced from the outset in 2013. Today's blog post announcing the new React Nanodegree points out that: Some of the biggest brands in the world use it, including Netflix, Airbnb, Walmart, and more. Despite the relative newness of the technology, React developers are already the highest paid front-end developers, and demand for developers with React skills is growing faster than any other developer type. The decision to be a professional React developer has seemingly become a very smart career move overnight.
Providing a Nanodegree for developers to become professional React developers also seems like a good strategy for Udacity and to do so it has partnered with React Training, a company that includes on its client list Google, Visa, The New York Times and Starbucks with its co-founder Ryan Florence noting in the video below: “80% of the people that we’ve trained are Fortune 500 companies, so that gives you an idea of the size and scope of who’s using React.” Explaining in the video why React Training has collaborated with Udacity Tyler McGinnis says: “React Training is really good at teaching React, and Udacity is really good at supporting students.” The mentorship and code review features of a Nanodegree program referred to in the video are something Nikos Vaggalis has written about on I Programmer with respect to the Android Developer Nanodegree. Students signing up to learn about React can expect:
The React Nanodegree program starting on June 27th has a 4-month duration and a total cost of $499. The curriculum consists of 3 courses:
Each course will require students to build a project. The prerequisites are experience with building front-end web applications with:
You should have familiarity with the following:
Enrollment is open until the course starts on June 27th.
