Google has opened submissions for two annual developer programs - the Indie Games Accelerator and the Indie Games Festival. These programs are designed to help small games studios grow on Google Play, no matter what stage they are in. The Accelerator program is designed to help small games studios to launch new games titles, while the Games Festival gives the chance to win promotions for games that have already been created and launched. Both programs have been run previously, and Google says this year the programs come with some changes, including more eligible markets and fully digital event experiences. The Accelerator program is open to indie developers from over 70 countries who are either close to launching a new game or have recently launched a title. Developers chosen to participate will be invited to take part in a 12-week online acceleration program during which they'll have access to a community of Google and industry experts, as well as a network of passionate developers from around the world. The Indie Games Festival is a contest where entrants have the chance to win prizes to showcase their games. Prizes include a promotional campaign by Google Play worth 100,000 EUR for the European segment. Winners also get premium placements in Google Play, promotions on other Google Play and Android marketing channels, and the chance to be selected for the Indie Games Accelerator.
The initial round of judging to select up to 20 finalists will be done by the Google Play team and an independent judge.Once submissions close, all eligible entries will be reviewed and up to top 20 finalists will be chosen by the Google Play team based on the level of innovation, fun, and technical & production quality. The 20 finalists will submit pitch videos and join a Q&A event with the jury, and will be given the opportunity to showcase their games at an online event open to the public, where the Top 10 finalists and 3 winners will be announced.
