With the ink hardly dry on the pages of the EU Ethical AI Guidelines manifest, a free online course exploring the issues they raise is already in prospect on the openSAP platform.

Run by members of the very same group, the European Union’s High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence, who wrote the guidelines and in cooperation with SAP's online education platform, a course with the title Creating Trustworthy and Ethical Artificial Intelligence has been made accessible to anyone with an interest on AI or ML:

Creating trustworthy and ethical artificial intelligence is made requires an understanding not only of the technology itself, but also the societal and ethical conditions present, and how to appropriately account for and assess their impact on the way AI is designed, built, and tested, and the way we interact with it

As already mentioned the course is addressed to stakeholders who design, develop, deploy, implement, use, and interact with AI or are affected by it, but also to the wide public as previous experience on the topic is desired but not required.

The course commences on June 25 and lasts 4 weeks, ending on the July 24, and you can enroll now to reserve your seat.

The material is a mix of Video Units which you can access any time, Self-Tests after each Video unit and a Discussion Forum set up to exchange ideas and opinions on the course or ask questions. There's going to be a single Course assignment, doable at any time whilst the course is open.

In detail the syllabus consists of :

  • Welcome and Introduction
  • Section 1:The Foundations of Trustworthy AI
  • Section 2:Key Concepts for Trustworthy AI
  • Section 3:Making Trustworthy AI a Reality
  • I Like, I Wish:We Love Your Feedback
  • Course Assignment

The teaching staff sport impressive CVs. Head of the course team, Matkus Noga, is also head of SAP's Leonardo Machine Learning department where he leads teams building machine learning. Other instructors include Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, director general of DIGITALEUROPE, the leading association for the digital technology industry in Europe and Mathias Cellarius is SAP’s group data protection officer and head of Data Protection and Privacy. Therefore the expertise is there and the course topic is one that will certainly occupy our life in the near future, hence it might best to embark on it starting right now.The price (free) is right too!

Not really random. Not even pseudo random, more stuff that caught my attention and that I, for one, would like to be given. And, yes, if I'm not given them, I'd probably buy some for myself.
