Games For Cats Hackathon

The first ever cat game hackathon is being held in LA and the prizes are big $15,000 for the winner. All you have to do is write the best game for cats you can think of.

If you reflect on things for a moment, it is obvious that cats drive humans to invent things. The laser for example - not an invention looking for a problem, but the ideal cat toy. The internet - nope it isn't about advanced computing and information processing, it is about cat videos and cat celebrities. We won't even begin to discuss the mouse....

The tablet computer?

What better way to implement cat games can you think of? A touch screen is the obvious way for a cat to interface with your expensive hardware. No fingers, no thumbs so just bat the screen - who needs a joystick or a games controller.

Expect cat paw scuff marks on the screen.

The Hackathon is starting on March 23rd and it costs $20 to enter, but the prize is $15,000 for the winner, with $3,000 and $2,000 awards for the runners-up and it is organized by cat food company Purina. The sad part is that you have to be in LA to compete - perhaps if it is a success Purina might be tempted to expand it to a worldwide contest.

If you would like some ideas check out the video of three existing cat games for the iPad:

And if you think about it a little more you will realize that what goes around comes around. What could be better than lots of cute videos of cats playing the games that we human have been forced to create for them.
