Announcing this news on the GitHub blog, Jason Warner explains:

Developers use more than one kind of tool to build software. With the flexibility to integrate exactly the right tools for the job, your team can work productively, however you work best.

The blog post also introduces smart recommendations, a new feature of GitHub which will be rolling our in the coming months, which. will detect Dockerfiles in the root of a repository and automatically suggest you use a CI (continuous integration) tool like Cloud Build from GitHub Marketplace if one isn’t already set up:

The advantages of Google Cloud Build according to its description on GitHub Marketplace are that it:

lets you create fast, consistent, reliable builds across all languages. Automatically build containers or non-container artifacts on commits to your GitHub repository. Get complete control over defining custom workflows for building, testing, and deploying across multiple environments such as VMs, serverless, Kubernetes, or Firebase.

Cloud Build uses the new Checks API, the beta release of which we reported in May, to get feedback from integration on your code. Once a build is complete, you can see rich status reports, annotated code, and detailed information, all without leaving GitHub:

Google Cloud Build doesn't seem to have a 14-day free trial on GitHub Marketplace but it does have a free tier. It is charged on a "pay-as-you-go" basis at $0.003 per minute after 120 free build minutes per day with up to 10 concurrent builds included.

Melody Meckfessel, Vice President of Engineering at Google Cloud commented:

“The release of Cloud Build on GitHub Marketplace is the first step in an exciting partnership. Bringing our fully-managed continuous integration to the GitHub platform will provide fast, frictionless, and convenient CI for any repository on GitHub. Google Cloud and GitHub share a vision for developer productivity and we look forward to continuing to build on this partnership.”
