Update: MDN Plus is now available in all the countries listed below plus Puerto Rico, see MDN Plus Now Available In More Countries.

We have been expecting MDN Plus to launch this month and today it has happened. It is now available in the US and Canada but for those in other countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore, it's a case of waiting a few more months.

In this video Florian Dieminger, Engineering Manager  introduces MDN Plus, drawing attention to the three features that come as extras when you subscribe:

  • Collections: Save the articles you are most interested in, and it seems frequently visited articles will be added automatically You can add notes to them and will be able to browse them later
  • Notifications: Get notifications for the latest developments on MDN. When you follow a page, you’ll get notified when the documentation changes, CSS features launch, and APIs ship.
  • MDN Offline: Using a Progressive Web Application (PWA)  you can access MDN Web Docs even when you lack internet access so you can continue your work without any interruptions. Also provides a faster experience while saving data.

There are three tiers for MDN Plus. As expected there's a subscription for $5 per month, with a 20% discount if you opt to pay $50 on a yearly basis - but there's also a supporter plan for those  who are willing to spend $10 per month of $100 per year. And there's a limited Free tier for those who want a test drive before purchasing a plan.

As previously stressed by Mozilla, MDN Web Doc will continue to be available for free. Indeed Mozilla not only intends to continue to develop and maintain its web documentation, keeping it free and accessible for everyone, it also envisages that MDN Web Docs will benefit from MDN Plus. According to the MDN Plus Mozilla plans to reinvest part of the gains from MDN Plus and improve its documentation as well as the overall user experience on the website.
