Firefox 12 Delivers Improved Developer Tools

Mozilla has launched Firefox 12 which features a simpler update process and improvements to all of the buillt-in developer tools.

For users the most important change is the change to the Windows update process. The user account control dialog (UAC) pop-up has been removed and for all subsequent versions, Firefox will automatically update without requesting approval - which will make some users ask what UAC was for in the first place.

Some users will be pleased not to be bothered with having to agree to updates which happen around every six weeks; on the other hand, updates sometimes introduce new problems and so others may feel that automatic update is an unwelcome feature.

It is developers who are likely to benefit most from updating to the latest version with changes that include no longer needing to reload the page to see messages in the Web Console, and Find and Jump to Line commands added to the Scratchpad editor.

According to Robert Nyman, a Technical Evangelist for Mozilla, there have been 89 improvements to the Developer Tools, affecting Web Console, Scratchpad, Style Editor, Page Inspector, Style Inspector, HTML view and Page Inspector 3D view (Tilt) and his blog lists the most significant.
