JQuery Mobile, announced almost a year ago, has now reached the milestone of Release Candidate 1 with its first full release planned within the next few weeks.

This release comes with a long list of bug fixes, refinements and optimizations, as well as support for the Meego platform,  which we reported it was considering dropping when Beta 1 was released. Instead Meego, whose future is now officially deprecated, has been added to devices at its A-grade level of support - i.e. Full enhanced experience with Ajax-based animated page transitions and only the Samsung Bada remains in the category "Not Officially Supported – May work, but haven't been thoroughly tested or debugged ".

Among the key changes noted in Todd Parker's blog post announcing the release are tweaks to the collapsible and accordion widget that "really improve the visual design" and while iOS5 page transitions and true fixed headers have been improved, this feature will be off  by default pending the final version of iOS5 when it  can be thoroughly tested. Other enhancements, such as a new ThemeRoller tool and a download builder, are still in the pipeline.
