Amazon has been working really hard to get Kindle readers available on just about every platform you can imagine but support for actually creating Kindle ebooks has been much less active.
All that has been available until now is a command line tool that converts from one format to Kindle and a previewer. Perhaps this lack of good publishing tools accounts for some of the not-so-wonderful ebook layouts that you can encounter. Now there is no excuse as Amazon has a Beta Version of a Kindle Plugin for Adobe InDesign, a new tool that allows publishers to more easily make titles available for Kindle by converting Adobe InDesign files directly into Kindle books. This is a free download, and allows publishers and content creators to take existing print-ready files and create Kindle books with a couple of clicks. Its key features are:
You can use Adobe InDesign version CS4, CS5 in Windows (XP, Vista, 7) and Mac (10.5 and 10.6) For more information and to download Kindle Plugin for Adobe InDesign for free, go to www.amazon.com/kindlepublishing. Now all you need is a copy of InDesign.
