Calling All Pythonistas

JetBrains is running a survey of Python Developers for the second time. The results of the first one provided a helpful overview of the Python landscape, so if you actively use Python it's worth spending ten minutes contributing your answers to a set of well constructed questions.

There is also an incentive to take part. Once the survey is over 100 winners will be chosen at random from among those who completed it in its entirety, and supplied their email addresses to receive a Python Surprise Gift Pack

Over 9,500 developers from almost 150 different countries participated in the first survey conducted jointly by the Python Software Foundation and JetBrains. We ran two reports on the results, see Python Development Trends and What Makes Python Special? both of which contained some surprises about how Python is being used.

Interest in Python has probably never been stronger with numerous polls commenting on its prominence and popularity - as a language for teaching programming and computer science, for data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence and for web programming. It is hardly surprising that we run headlines such as "Python The Future Of Programming?".

This survey probes the other languages Python is being used with, the frameworks and additional technologies it is used alongside and the choice of development environment.

One of the heartening findings from the 2017 survey was that three out of four respondents now use Python 3 rather than Python 2. It will be interesting to see if Python 3 adoption has improved further over the intervening period, given that Python 3.7 was released.

So whether you are a longstanding Python aficionado or a recent convert, head to Python Developers Survey 2018 and let your experience of Python be included in the next map of the Python ecosystem.
