Use Javascriptmas To Hone Your Webdev Skills

Every day until December 24th MDN, in partnership with Scrimba, is releasing a daily challenge, which as the name suggests requires you to practice your JavaScript skills. Each solution you submit earns an entry into a prize draw. Two lucky winners will each receive a Macbook Air M3, lifetime Scrimba access and other MDN and Scrimba merchandise.

Earlier this year MDN introduced its Front-End Developer Curriculum and partnered with interactive learning platform Scrimba to create courses to ensure that learners acquire the most up-to-date and industry-relevant skills.

Scrimba specializes in teaching web development skills, particularly JavaScript, React, and web design. It uses a unique format called "scrims" that combines video tutorials with a live coding environment, allowing learners to follow along and practice as they watch.

In the time-honored tradition of programming advent calendars, Javascriptmas provides a new Christmas-themed puzzle at midnight UTC. You can find these puzzles at:
https://scrimba.com/javascriptmas but you'll need to create a free account on Scrimba in order to participate. You can arrange to be notified by email when the day's puzzle in released and you can submit solutions to past puzzles up until midnight on Christmas Eve.

If you are new to Scrimba its worth starting with Day 1's challenge which requires modifying a Wishlist app to avoid duplicates. Its scrim makes it very clear what is required and also provides a couple of optional "stretch goals" to expand the basic challenge.

If you work your way through the entire set you'll encounter a variety of JavaScript algorithms and tasks in DOM manipulation, UI design, CSS, accessibility, and even a bit of cyber security.

As well as submitting your solution directly on Scrimba you are also encouraged to share them on social media (X, LinkedIn, TikToc and Instagram).

So why participate? If the intrinsic fun of the challenges isn't enough, there's the kudos of showcasing them to other people and there are prizes on offer:

Winners will be picked randomly - one from submission made on the platform and one from the shared solutions. Every submission counts as a lottery ticket to encourage people to complete all the challenges and spammy or AI-generated solutions will be disqualified.

If you want help with Javascritptmas there's a dedicated Discord and there's also a walkthrough of Day 3's puzzle that has been posted on You Tube by Anthony Sistilli.

Never having been on the Scrimba platform before, this video really helped.
