IBM is running a Watsonx Hackathon where entrants get access to watsonx featuring IBM Granite and could win a trip to Las Vegas. IBM Watson is a platform that uses natural language processing and machine learning to discover insights in large sets of unstructured data. It is a question-answering system that can answer questions phrased using natural language. Watsonx is an AI and data platform, and the Granite series is a collection of generative AI models that apply generative AI to the modalities of language and code. The Hackathon is being held ahead of the IBM TechXchange Conference in Las Vegas in October, and includes no-charge access to the IBM data and AI platform (plus IBM’s LLM, Granite) with the entrants competing for a chance to win a trip to the conference. The entrants (sole developers or teams of up to three people) should identify a real-world business or societal process that needs improvement. They then need to develop an innovative proof of concept for how this improvement could be achieved using generative AI. The second option is to show how to improve productivity with day-to-day tasks using IBM watsonx Orchestrate. The winning three teams will win a trip to the IBM TechXchange Conference 2024 in Vegas, including travel and lodging. The first prize winners will also receive $5,000 in IBM Cloud credits to continue their project, and each team member will receive an IBM Individual Learning Subscription and IBM watsonx swag bag. The team will also get the chance to present their work on stage at the conference. For the second prize winners, each team member will receive an IBM Individual Learning Subscription and IBM watsonx swag bag. The third prize winners also get the swag bags, and there are additional prizes of Apple AirPods Pros for the first runners-up and IBM watsonx hoodies for second runners-up. The dates for the hackathon are September 12-22, with winners announced on September 30, and the IBM TechXchange Conference live in Las Vegas on October 21-24.
