IBM has announced IBM watsonx, a new AI and data platform. It includes an AI development studio with access to IBM-curated and trained foundation models and open-source models, access to a data store and to a toolkit for AI governance. IBM positions watsonx as its next-generation AI and data platform for scaling and accelerating AI for new foundational models and generative AI. Watsonx users will be able to use the toolset to build their own AI models on their own data, or to fine-tune and adapt existing available models. They will then be able to deploy the models. Named after the Fatherof IBM, Thomas J. Watson Senior, the IBM watsonx platform is made up of three products. Firstly, the IBM watsonx.ai enterprise studio. This is expected to be generally available in July 2023, and can be use to train, test, tune, and deploy machine learning models. The studio comes with a range of foundation models, training and tuning tools. The model library is made up of IBM curated and trained foundation models based on enterprise data, and trained on language, as well as code, time-series data, tabular data, geospatial data, and IT events data. The initial set of foundation models include models built to automatically generate code for developers through a natural-language interface; large language models (LLMs); and geospatial models built on climate and remote sensing data. The studio will also make use of Hugging Face's open-source libraries and offer thousands of Hugging Face open models and datasets. The suite also includes a data store built on open lakehouse architecture with querying, governance, and open data formats to access and share data. There's also an AI governance toolkit to enable trusted AI workflows that is expected to be generally available later this year. IBM also plans to add watsonx.ai foundation models in its other major software products, including a solution for Watson Code Assistant that makes use of generative AI to allow developers to generate code with a straightforward English language command. Watsonx features will also be added to IBM's AIOps Insights, with foundation models expected for code and NLP, and to There's a form to join a waitlist for more information on watsonx.
