For the third year running, JetBrains is hosting a free online event devoted to the JavaScript ecosystem. Taking place on Tuesday, November 2nd, there's a schedule of nine talks about JavaScript, TypeScript, and related technologies, from expert speakers. The timing of the event caters for a worldwide audience. The Opening Remarks are scheduled for:
and will be immediately followed by a talk titled "State of Angular" from Simona Cotin, a member of the Angular team at Google who will give a pre-release presentation of new features in Angular 17, due to be released on November 6th. Each talk lasts 40 minutes and there are 10-minute breaks between them. This event is organised by JetBrains WebStorm team and it is doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session halfway through the event, inviting attendees to ask about WebStorm and its future plans, JavaScript and TypeScript support in any JetBrains IDE, or anything else. The talk I'm most looking forward to is "JavaScript Should Come With Batteries" from Luca Casonato. His premise is that: Setting up JavaScript projects is no fun. Getting started involves installing and configuring node, tsc, prettier, eslint, a testing framework, a database driver, and more. Why is JavaScript not batteries included? In this talk, we'll talk about how Deno fixes this, letting you focus on building stuff. We explore what benefits full tooling integration unlocks and remember how fun it is to program if your tools help you rather than requiring your babysitting. On IProgrammer we've covered the evolution of Deno in news reports so it will be good to know more about it. There are another six talks with titles:
These are outlined by Mike James in JavaScript Day 2023 - What's In Store. All of these talks seem tempting and if you can't spare enough time on the day to attend all of those that interest you it's good to know they'll eventually be available on JetBrains YouTube. The advantage of attending the sessions live is that you can ask questions during the presentations which the speakers will try to answer. If you register, by providing you name and email address, you can ask for a reminder at the beginning of the event or individual reminders for select sessions.
