Full Stack Web Development is one of Coursera's most popular specializations. Consisting offive courses plus a Capstone project it is expected to take around 6 months to complete )based on a minimum investment of 3-4 hours per week) and costs students in India INR 21,000.

It comes from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, in partnership with IBM Academic Initiative and consists of the following courses:

  • HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Front-End Web UI Frameworks and Tools
  • Front-End JavaScript Frameworks: AngularJS
  • Multiplatform Mobile App Development with Web Technologies
  • Server-side Development with NodeJS
  • Capstone project

Under the terms of the initiative announced last month at the IBM DeveloperConnect event in Bangalore, IBM will support the top 20 Indian students who complete the five courses and advance to the course’s capstone and who use Bluemix to develop their projects by giving them $120,000 per year in IBM Cloud credits. They will also have the opportunity to join the IBM Global Entrepreneur program. Additionally, all students enrolled in the Specialization will receive personalized invitations to apply to represent their startups at IBM SmartCamp 2016, a mentoring bootcamp and pitch competition between rising startups from around the globe.

Entrepreneurs appear to have a promising future in India. The Coursera press release states that the Indian startup landscape is witnessing unparalleled growth and is playing a critical role in shaping the future of the country’s economy. It reports that according to Indian trade association NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) India is the third largest startup ecosystem in the world and that by 2020, it would have 11,500 startups, employing over 250 million people.

Speaking about Coursera’s collaboration with IBM, Kabir Chadha, India Country Manager, Coursera, said:

"New start-ups are popping up in India every day, and we are pouring significant resources into industry partnerships and content launches to keep up with the demand for tech skills. IBM’s technology expertise and focus on developing the start-up community in the country will significantly benefit our learners by providing them with invaluable financial support and the necessary tools for a chance at success."

Only learners in India will be eligible for being awarded the $120K in IBM cloud credits and students who have already started on this specialization will be eligible as well as new starters. The cost of the entire specialization in India is around INR 21,009 and financial aid is available for students who cannot afford this fee.
