Scrimba is an online interactive coding platform that aims to make learning to code fun and accessible. It offers courses on web development, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React and also has an AI Engineer Path that teaches you how to build AI-powered applications.
We first encountered Scrimba’s unique approach to teaching coding skills in Javascriptmas, an advent calendar of daily challenges hosted on its platform in partnership with MDN. While a Scrimba lesson, a “scrim” seem like a video, it is in fact a recorded screencast of an instructor coding with a live coding environment embedded inside. This means that the user can interact with the lesson at any point. So, unlike traditional video tutorials where learners passively watch, Scrimba actively engages them in the learning process, setting challenges at intervals within the lesson. In this YouTube video, Scrimba CEO Per Borgen outlines the features of the Scrimba v2 which was launched six months ago. Going into 2025, the Scrimba AI Engineer Path seems particularly worthwhile. It includes the basics of AI, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, covers how to use popular AI development tools, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch to develop and deploy AI models. Along the way you'll learn how to build a variety of AI-powered applications, such as chatbots, image recognition systems, and recommendation engines. Around 80% of Scrimba content, including Javascriptmas which is still available, is currently free to access – the rest, including the AI Engineer Path, requires a paid subscription. Besides access to Pro courses, this unlocks certifications, access to certain projects and other useful features.
