JetBrains has released JetBrains Toolbox, a collection of desktop tools including a new IDE for developers who work with SQL and databases.

The Toolbox includes

  • IntelliJ IDEA 15 Ultimate Edition
  • AppCode
  • CLion 1.2

  • PyCharm Professional
  • RubyMine
  • WebStorm 11
  • ReSharper Ultimate which includes ReSharper, ReSharper C++, dotTrace, dotCover and dotMemory
  • 0xDBE 1.0

The new version of IntelliJ IDEA adds new features, an improved user interface, more built-in tools, and improved coding assistance. It also includes a beta version of the Kotlin plugin. Kotlin is the JVM language that JetBrains is developing.

The debugger has been enhanced to work with Java 8, with lambda support so you can target lambdas when setting breakpoints, running code to cursor or an arbitrary expression, and stepping into code at the caret.

Coding assistance for Spring has been updated in the IDE to support the new 4.2 features: @Bean on Java 8 default methods, @Import with regular component classes, code completion and navigation for @EventListener, @AliasFor and @ContextConfiguration support along with supporting Hibernate 5.0.

The new version of the JavaScript web development IDE WebStorm that is part of the Toolkit adds support for Angular 2, along with improved support for TypeScript, ECMAScript 2015 and Dart. It also adds Yeoman integration.

0xDBE is also included. This is the beta version of JetBrain's new IDE for SQL, which, as we reported in JetBrains Previews IDE For SQL combines an intelligent SQL editor and collection of database tools running on top of the IntelliJ platform. The package provides coding assistance including schema-aware completion, on-the-fly code analysis and quick-fixes, search, navigation, and refactoring.

Alongside the updated software, JetBrains has introduced a new subscription service which gives access to all tools on the Toolbox. The initial announcement of this caused outrage among developers, and JetBrains reconsidered and has now settled on a pricing model that includes a Perpetual Fallback Licence. Existing subscribers only need to switch to the new model once their current subscriptions run out.
