Kids have always been keen adopters of gadgets and Nielsen now reports that seven out of every 10 children in table-owning households get to use the tablet. So what types of app appeal to this growing audience?
Nielsen's graph shows that 77% percent of the children granted access to a tablet play downloaded games and 57 percent said children used tablets to access educational apps.
One important role for tablets is keeping kids quiet while families are out and about: 55 percent and 41 percent of parents report that their children used tablets for entertainment while traveling or in restaurants, respectively.
This can include watching TV shows and movies, which 43 percent of children use the family tablet for. Communicating with friends and family is the least popular function on tablets – only 15 percent of kids engage in this activity.
There seems to be an interesting market to target with new apps.
