Following a well-established pattern both Google's and Microsoft's Developer Conferences will take place in May while Apple follows on in June. Here are the dates plus what to expect. Google's tradition for revealing the date of Google I/O is via a multi-level puzzle. As this year's event is entirely online, there's no longer any need to give an advantage to the most talented coders, i.e those who could solve the puzzle in the shortest time. However there was, and still is, an #io24puzzle and if you don't want to know the date before you complete the puzzle skip the next paragraph, Google I/O 2024 takes place on May 14 and the livestreamed keynotes will start at 10am PT. According to Jeanine Banks, VP & General Manager, Developer X, and Head of Developer Relations, it: offers something for everyone, whether you are developing a new application, modernizing an existing one, or transforming it into a business. She also comments on how the Gemini era unlocks new possibilities for developers to build creative and productive AI-enabled applications suggesting the AI-assisted development will be a key focus of this year's conference along with what’s new for mobile, web, and multiplatform development, and how to scale your applications in the cloud all of which will be covered in over 100 sessions, workshops, codelabs, and demos. While you don't have to register to view the keynotes and sessions, registration has some benefits including emails to stay up to date about the schedule and content. As a registrant, you can also create a developer profile to get the most out of the digital experience by saving and viewing content that's relevant to you. You must be at least 18 years of age to register. Microsoft Build takes place 21-23, 2024 in-person in Seattle and online. The theme for this year's event is "How will AI shape your future?" with keynotes on: the latest innovations in AI solutions, copilots, and more Breakout sessions will: let you explore the details surrounding new AI features that reduce the constant stream of repetitive and predictable tasks. and hands-on demos will let attendees experience AI in action. Until April 5th there is an Early Bird price of $1,825 for attending, after which the cost is $2,125. This buys you not only the live experience of keynotes and breakout sessions but also labs and demos that will not be available online and access in-person to Microsoft experts and partners. Attendees can expect "event swag", participation in the Microsoft Cloud Skills Challenge, plus two evening events - a mixer in The Hub and an evening celebration. While the digital event is free, by registering you will get "digital swag", participation in the Microsoft Cloud Skills Challenge and online features including:
These online aspects are also available to attendees. Apple's WorldWide Developer Conference takes place this year as a free online event open to all from June 10 to June 14. A limited number of Apple Developers and Students will attend a special event at Apple Park on the opening day, among them winners of the Swift Student Challenge. Judging by previous WWDC events, Apple will be offering a sneak peek at upcoming iOS 18, iPadOS 18, which are expected to the biggest upgrades for more than a decade. macOS 15, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and visionOS 2 are also likely to figure in the keynotes. So far Apple's approach to gen AI has been something of a mystery but it this is bound to be a topic of interest at WWDC24. There are reports that Apple is in talks with Google about integrating Gemini with iOS for iPhones with ChatGPT maker OpenAI to onboard AI features on iPhones. Siri and other native iPhone apps such as Keynote, Voicememo, Numbers, Files are all expected to get AI-enabled features and who knows how much we will learn about this from WWDC24.
