The results of August's iProgrammer poll show that Android is the mobile platform you are most keen on - by a long margin.  Windows Phone 7 narrowly beats iPhone into third place and the rest of the field trails home with less than 20% of the votes between them.

Our next challenge is to decide where the future of programming languages lies.

The results of August's iProgrammer poll show that Android is the mobile platform you are most keen on.

There were 10 starters in this race and with 45% of the vote Android was a clear winner.

The next two runners were neck and neck with Windows Phone 7 at 19% narrowly outstripping iPhone at 18%.

MeeGo and Symbian between them accounted for 10% of the vote and Blackberry 3%, bada 3% were just ahead of  Java ME at 2%. The real loser was Palm OS with only a single vote.!

The fact that Windows Phone 7 is so popular is even more surprising when you remember that it hasn't actually been launched yet. It also suggests that Nokia would take a reasonable share of the market if it could only back a single mobile operating system.

Our next challenge for you is to gaze into the crystal ball and decide where the future on programming languages lies - will it be procedural, declarative, logical, graphical or dynamic. You have until the end of September to make up your mind and if you aren't sure what the different categories are all about make sure you look out for our article that explains it all - to be published tomorrow.

If you are curious about how the programming community views a particular topic then you have a suggestion for a future I Programmer Poll!

Email the editor with your thoughts.
