Amazon has announced a new tool for AWS that can be used to embed dashboards into high-traffic web pages and applications. The new feature, Fine-Grained Visual Embedding, uses Amazon QuickSight to power the data visualizations, and the team says this will let developers: "provide rich insights for your end-users where they need them the most, without server or software setup or infrastructure management."
Amazon QuickSight is a cloud-based embeddable and ML-powered business intelligence (BI) service that lets you set up interactive data visualizations, analysis, and reporting. It supports embedded analytics so developers can put their analytics displays into internal portals or public sites. Amazon says it means organizations can embed interactive dashboards, natural language querying (NLQ), or the complete BI-authoring experience seamlessly in their applications. The embedded information and charts are automatically updated when the source data changes or when the visual is updated. The embedded visuals scale automatically and are optimized for high performance on high-traffic pages. The new tool can be used by an automatic "1-Click Embedding" or by using QuickSight APIs to generate the embed URL. The 1-Click Embedding feature is designed to make it easy for nontechnical users to generate embed code that can be inserted directly into internal portals or public sites. The QuickSight documentation says: "Ask conversational questions of your data and use Q’s ML-powered engine to receive relevant visualizations without the time consuming data preparation from authors and admins." Q is the QuickSight natural language query tool. If developers want to go further, the APIs can be used to embed visuals in their applications. To perform visual embedding through the API, you can use AWS CLI or SDK to call the API. The tool supports row-level security so data access is secured enabling users to access only their data.
