Windows Phone Marketplace Expands

Microsoft has announced that five of the recently announced Windows Phone 7 markets (Argentina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, and the Philippines)  are now officially open for business.

Microsoft has announced that five of the six new Windows Phone 7 markets it announced last month -  Argentina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, and the Philippines - are now open for business.

Compared to the sixth territory on last month's list China, which  is still in the pipeline, these may seem to be minor markets, but there are still a lot of people there and they are all potential customers.

One point to watch is that when Microsoft adds new territories to the marketplace, you do need to add them to the list of places in which your apps will be sold.

This is true, according to the Windows Developer blog, even if you’ve already set your app to be available globally. There’s a walkthrough showing how to do it on the App Hub.

The blog post also has a reminder that if you want to sell your app in Indonesia, Malaysia or China (which is accepting apps but not yet open to consumers), you’ll need to make sure you meet the certification requirements covering local laws and regulations. You can check out the Application Certification Requirements in the MSDN Library. If your app fails certification because of these additional requirements, you’ll need to update and resubmit it, or uncheck the submission boxes for those markets.
