The Veriplace competition is a chance to win $5000 and develop an application that makes use of the ability to locate a mobile device and presumably its user. So what would you use it for?
WaveMarket has a competition for you to implement something using their Veriplace Development Platfor. This lets you create location aware applications that work with SMS, Web, WAP and Mobile applications on a range of devices.
Veriplace applications can locate any mobile device—both feature phones and smart phones—via GPS and other technologies using a standard API.Currently there are estimated to be 150 million such devices across the US alone. To participate in the contest, developers simply register for a freeDeveloper Account on Veriplace and submit their application for certification before the contest deadline (11:59 PM PST on July 1, 2010). Applications can be web, WAP, IVR, SMS, or anything else you can think of! You can use either Freedom (free) or Professional (paid for) mode to create your app. Winners will be announced on Monday, July 26, 2010. The prizes for the winning applications by category include:
First Prize:
Second Prize: (either Freedom Mode or Professional Mode) four iPads awarded to four categories:
In addition you might like to join the new LocationNationDeveloper community to get some ideas, swap problems for solutions and receive a $50 Veriplace credit. This can be applied to an application built on Professional Mode Another interesting twist on a competition is the ability to submit a video that illustrates the problem your app will solve. Judges will take into consideration creativity and how well contestants demonstrate the solution to their proposed pain-point. To get started visit: http://developer.veriplace.com/contest
