Google has introduced a new beta program, Android Training, a collection of lessons designed to help mobile developers build better Android apps.

The program has launched with the following 11 classes each composed of multiple lessons - typically four or more:

  • Designing for multiple screens
  • Improving layout performance
  • Managing audio playback
  • Optimizing battery life
  • Remembering users
  • Sharing content
  • Capturing photos
  • Maintaining multiple APKs
  • Developing for enterprise
  • Monetizing your app
  • Designing effective navigation

Each of these explains the steps required to solve a problem, or implement a specific feature, with  of code snippets and sample code for developers to build on in their own apps. The lessons are not video based, nor are they walkthroughs but good old fashioned explanatory articles that include some code you can download as wel as read about.

As Reto Meier, Android Developer Relations Tech Lead explains in the blog announcement

We're starting small and this is just the beginning for Android Training. Over the coming months we will be increasing the number of classes available, as well as introducing over-arching courses and sample apps to further help your development experience.
