Donald Knuth in Alan Turing Year

Today, January 10, 2012, Donald Knuth turns 74 and tomorrow he will be the guest of honor at an event in Switzerland with the title "In the Footsteps of Alan Turing".

Donald Knuth, Professor Emeritus at the University of Stanford and author of the multi-tome and ongoing Art of Computer Programming intends to spend most of 2012 writing.

He is, however, making some public appearances, starting with a short talk while being presented with the Ausbildungs- und Beratungszentrum für Informatikunterricht (ABZ) Platinum Gold Medal at the Third Swiss Day for the Computer Science Education on January 11.

On January 14, 2012 he will give a presentation, "All Questions Answered" at the Swiss Olympiad in Informatics.

In June he is participating in Turing Centenary events in two locations:

On Friday June 15 he is one of over 30 ACM Turing Award Winners attending the ACM Turing Centenary Celebration Reception in San Francisco and will be participating member of one of the panels who will reflect on Alan Turing's contribution and share their views on the past and future of computing.

The following week Knuth is due give an impromptu talk at the ACM's UK Turing Centenary Conference in Manchester.

Between these two events he will be in Italy to give a Keynote entitled title "Satisfiability and The Art of Computer Programming" at SAT 2012 - an international conference for researchers studying the propositional satisfiability problem.
