Intuit's Small Business Hackathon is back in London for the third time and has a prizes of up to £5000 for creating a brand new solution that saves small businesses time or money.

Intuit is the company behind the small business accounting package, QuickBooks and its hackathon is staged annually in the US (Mountain View, California), Canada (Toronto), Australia (Sy7dney) and the UK (London). The format is shared between the four locations. As an individual or in a team of up to four people you have just over 24 hours to "Build something that matters" writing code in the language of your choice and using the APIs and tools you prefer. While you don't need to integrate the QuickBooks API's into your hack it might impress the judges.

The venue for the London event is CodeNode and the event is open to participants aged 18 and over. While it is free you need to register here.

The confirmation email promises:

You’re in for a fun filled weekend of coding, great food and tons of tech prize giveaways, not to mention a chance at $5000. 

I think the email text must be shared with the other locations as the contest website suggests all the cash prizes are in £ sterling with £5000 for the overall winner - and to be shared equally between team members. The second place prize is £500 and up to four team members will each receive £500. Similarly for third place - the prize for which is £250 each for up to four participants.

The email refers to tech giveaways and the first 25 participants to check-in at the venue on Saturday 23 February will receive a Rocketbook Everlast Reusable Smart Notebook.

The schedule includes talks until hacking begins at 11:00. You can continue hacking until 13:00 on Sunday, coding all through the night if you want to. After Hacking ends teams present their pitches to the judges who will announce the winners at 4:30 in time for the awards ceremony.

Two final points, in the spirit of the hackathon, all the code should be new and originated at the event and participants keep the rights to their own hack.
