Microsoft has launched a challenge for innovative, breakthrough AI solutions from developers, students, professionals and data scientists. Preference will be given for solutions developed on the Microsoft AI platform and with Microsoft services.
The idea behind the competition is to find ideas that have the potential to improve people's lives, but where the person with the idea feels they're lacking the platform to develop the ideas. This challenge is intended to turn people's ideas into real systems. The winning entries will be featured in Microsoft's AI.lab showcase. Microsoft's AI.lab is a collection of AI projects designed to help developers explore, experience, learn about and code with Microsoft AI Platform technologies. Current projects highlighted on the lab include a drawing bot based on a Generative Adversarial Network, or GAN; and a cognitive search system that can pull data from almost any source and apply a set of composable cognitive skills to extract knowledge out of it. There's also a system for search and rescue based on a combination of drones plus AirSim (Microsoft's simulator for drones and robots) that uses a Python script to fly a drone around a simulated environment and take pictures of 'missing' animals. The AI Idea Challenge is intended for AI models and applications that can be freely shared , so they are reusable and easily accessible. Ideas submitted for the challenge will be judged on the basis of the originality of the idea, the feasibility of your solution, and the complexity or level of sophistication of your implementation. Entries will be accepted from now until October 12th, 2018, and to qualify for the competition, individuals or teams are required to submit a working AI model, test dataset, a demo app and a demo video that can be a maximum of three minutes long. You can register your idea for the competition and upload the design, then plan and build out your solution and turn in the rest of your materials before the end of the competition. The winners of the first three places in the contest will receive a Surface Book 2, a DJI Drone, and an Xbox One X respectively.
