When you want to enter the market with an app that's going to compete with existing, established products, it's a good idea to know what features users value. This infographic has some interesting insights. Catchfree, a site that helps you identify free apps that match your requirements in a range of categories, has done some research into what users like most about the photo apps they use on their Apple and Android tablets and phones. Surprisingly, the activity of sharing photos came lowest on the list of three priorities while adding cool effects to photos was top. However there was a big difference when you take the device into account. Their questions revealed that it is iPad users who are most keen on photo apps. 80% would be "very disappointed" if denied use of their photo app and for this group sharing photos was the top priority. In comparison Android tablet users were the least keen about photo apps with only 44% saying they would be very disappointed and for this group adding cool effects was favorite activity. Thew two groups of phone users were similar in their keenness - 58% for iPhone users and 55% for Android. For both these groups adding cool effects was the top priority, but while this factor was selected by only 48% of iPhone users, 70% of Android phone users selected it. Among both Android Phone and Tablet users Creating Photo Albums was a low priority 13% and 11% respectively compared to 24% and 27% for iPhone and iPad users. Is this a reflection of differences between the users or of the apps that are available of the two platforms.
The infographics rounds out with a list of the top 5 apps in each of the three areas of activity. So now you know what you are up against in creating a killer photo app
