Google's project Glass - which seems to be a pair of AR specs - is making a lot of waves at the moment. Could this be the way Augmented Reality finally makes good. Perhaps you should watch this video and be careful what you wish for..

Why would Google be interested in AR? Well the answer is obvious - there is a business opportunity. But what business is Google in? Search obviously, but perhaps this isn't quite the whole story. Checkout the really amusing, or is it scary, video from Jonathan McIntosh:

After all, Google is an advertising company. As the man himself puts it:

Of course I'm exaggerating here for visual effect to mimic the modern web browsing experience. Google will probably not be this obvious with their interface but there's no question the company will be gathering massive amounts of extremely personal data to build detailed profiles and sell super targeted ads. Because let's face it, Google really is just a massive advertising company at heart.

And just for the record:

All of the AdWords used are actual Google ad returns found via Google searches based on the dialog, situation or setting in the original video. Yes "Music, Stop!" does actually return an ad asking if you would like to listen to music.

The video was created by overlaying the Google ads onto the promo that Google created for Glass - so now we can see if Google really has a sense of humour and holds off the take-down notice.

If you haven't seen Google's original promo video then compare and contrast:

Now which is the more likely? Which is the Real Augmented Reality....
