Google Career Certificates were introduced in 2019 as a resource for individuals looking to upskill or change careers. The first four certificates were in:

all areas where there is a skills gap with more job vacancies than candidates to fill them.

These certificates are at beginner level with no prerequisities and designed to teach you in-demand skills and make you job-ready within six months.

According to Google, over 300,000 individuals have now earned a Google Career Certificate. A survey conducted by Coursera of 10,000 graduates of the program found that 75% of those who earned a Google Career Certificate reported that it helped them in their career. Of those who reported a positive impact, 56% said it helped them get a new job, 29% said it helped them get a raise, and 25% said it helped them advance in their current role.

The new addition is Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate. At beginner level, it is an 8-course series, which can be completed in 6 months at 7 hours per week.

As pointed out in the video presented by its three instructors there is high demand for people with Cybersecurity skills - it is estimated that 3.5 million jobs in this area will need to be filled by 2025. The rubric for the course also claims a starting salary of  $80,000 and Google provides help in creating a resume and also works with a consortium of 150 employers to help graduates find jobs.

In brief, the course will enable you to:

  • Understand the importance of cybersecurity practices and their impact for organizations.

  • Identify common risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, as well as techniques to mitigate them.

  • Protect networks, devices, people, and data from unauthorized access and cyberattacks using Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tools.

  • Gain hands-on experience with Python, Linux, and SQL.

Like the other Google Professional Certificates this course costs $49 per month after a 7-day free trial. It is included in the Coursera Plus subscription plan which costs $399 per annum and gives you unlimited access to over 7,000 of Coursera's courses.
