Microsoft relaxes restrictions for Xbox LIVE platform

Microsoft has made changes to the App Hub policy that  benefit independent games developers.

Some size, pricing and quantity restrictions applied to Xbox Live Indie Games titles submitted to App Hub, formerly the Creators Club, have been relaxed in a move that Microsoft hopes will please independent developers and promote growth for the Xbox platform.

The details are:

  • Higher maximum CCGAME size
Developers are now able to submit CCGAME bundles up to 500MB, over three times the previous 150MB limit.
  • New limit for 80 point games
Another change is to the requirement that titles larger than 50MB be priced at either 240 or 400 points. Now any game with a CCGAME size under 150MB can be priced at 80 points.
  • More titles per developer
Originally developers were limited to just eight titles on Xbox LIVE Indie Games. When Creators Club became App Hub, Microsoft raised the limit up to ten. This is now doubled with a new limit of twenty titles per developer.

Overall the changes seem to be welcomed by the developer community but they still have their complaints - mainly lack of facilities, slow response from Microsoft in restoring pulled games and more development opertinities to interact with the wider system.
