Google has announced that applications are now open for the inaugural North American Google for Startups Accelerator: Cloud cohort. Applications are now being accepted until May 30, and the Accelerator will kick-off this July.

The accelerator program is designed to help developers and companies who are building with cloud to useful contacts, and to familiarize them with suitable products and best practices to help them thrive. The 10-week virtual accelerator will help between eight and twelve startups.

Google has run a number of accelerator programs over recent years, for different geographical regions and for various sectors, including startups, circular economy, sustainability, women founders, and indie games.

Google says that the "adoption and acceleration of Google Cloud unlocks massive potential for startups as the global cloud market is set to grow to more than $470 billion over the next five years."

The Accelerator website says that as part of the North American Google for Startups Accelerator: Cloud, selected founders outline the top challenges facing their startup, and are then paired with relevant cloud experts from Google to help solve those challenges. Participating startups receive deep mentorship on technical topics and machine learning, as well as connections to relevant teams from across Google."

Google says that the accelerator program is best suited for revenue generating startups with a minimum of at least five employees. To ensure Google can provide meaningful value, startups should aim to make use of cloud-native technologies including AI/ML and analytics in their product, service, or operations or show an interest in using these technologies in the future.

The program is open to US- and Canada-based startups, and the equity-free virtual accelerator will offer cloud mentorship and technical project support, as well as deep dives and workshops on product design, customer acquisition and leadership development for cloud startup founders and leaders.

The Accelerator program is designed to bring the best of Google's programs, products, people and technology to startups doing impactful work in the cloud.
