Amazon has announced that Amazon Bedrock, a tool for building with generative AI on AWS, is now generally available. Amazon Bedrock is a fully managed service that offers a choice of high-performing foundation models (FMs). Generative AI apps are applications that can generate text, images, audio, and synthetic data in response to prompts. Generative AI is a subset of machine learning powered by ultra-large ML models, including large language models (LLMs) and multi-modal models (e.g., text, images, video, and audio). High profile applications like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion are examples of Generative AI apps. The supported FMs for Amazon Bedrock include a range of choices from companies including AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Cohere, Stability AI, and Amazon, along with a broad set of capabilities to build generative AI applications. Amazon says the tool should simplify the development while maintaining privacy and security. Bedrock comes with exclusive access to the Titan family of foundation models developed by AWS. The general release was accompanied by the announcement of an expanded model choice with Llama 2 (coming in the next few weeks) and Amazon Titan Embeddings. The Amazon Titan FMs are a family of FMs pretrained by AWS on large datasets, making them powerful, general purpose models. The way developers use Amazon Bedrock is to experiment with a variety of top FMs, customize them privately with the developer's own data using techniques such as fine-tuning and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and create managed agents that perform complex business tasks. The tool is designed to be used without writing any code. The tool is serverless, avoiding the need to manage any infrastructure, and can be used to integrate and deploy generative AI capabilities into your applications using AWS services. It is integrated with Amazon CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail for monitoring and governance. CloudWatch can be used to track usage metrics and build customized dashboards for audit purposes. Amazon Bedrock is available now.
