Windows 8: A Frankenstein Monster

Windows 8 is like a Frankenstein monster composed of two bodies loosely sewn together - Win32/Desktop is one half and WinRT/Metro is the other. Do they work together to produce some sort of Win/Metro-Desk that will take over the world? Or are they pulling in such opposite directions that the entire thing is going to fall apart?

Windows Phone 7 Sunk by Silverlight

As we reported this week, Silverlight seems to have reached the end of its road. What nobody seems to have noticed yet, is that sinking Silverlight drags Windows Phone 7 down with it.

Windows Fragmentation

While there is a lot of excitement at the prospect of Windows "reimagined" in the form of Metro or WinRT, or whatever Microsoft finally settles on calling it, there is an interesting and serious problem - fragmentation.

Ingres becomes Actian - some questions answered
