The bi-annual (twice a year) State of the Developer Nation Survey is fast becoming one of those regular events that serves to remind us just how quickly the years go by. So to overcome the "Not again!" feeling, Vision Mobile has introduced a fantasy adventure theme.

This is VisionMobile's 12 developer survey as, as before, the purpose of the survey, which takes around15 minutes, is to provide a:

360 view of developer tools, skills and salaries

It includes the by now familiar questions on topics like programming languages, platforms and tools covering app categories, new technologies, revenue models and IoT verticals.

What is new this time around is the introduction of an adventure scenario in which you visit the locations you want to on the survey island with D'owl as your guide.

I’m D’owl, the developer owl - and I’ll be your guide in this adventure. The survey is divided into seven Kingdoms: IoT, Mobile, Desktop, Backend, Web, Machine learning, and AR/VR. You may visit as many of them as you’d like. Click the Next button to start your journey!

Once you complete the survey, you’ll get to find out what kind of character you’d be in a fantasy world, based on your responses: A mage? A fighter? A dragon slayer? Take the survey and find out!

There are also prizes for participating including a MeccaNoid G15 KS, an Apple Watch Series 2, an Oculus Rift headset, a Pixel Phone, Udemy courses and more.

Once the survey is complete you'll also be sent a personal Developer Scorecard showing how you compare to other developers in your country and a free State of the Developer Nation report with the key findings from the survey (due March 2017).
