The latest version of PhpStorm, the IDE for PHP and web development from JetBrains, has been released.  It has improved support for PHP, a new inline debugger, and more options for remote development.

The improved support for PHP adds postfix code completion for PHP along with partial PHP 7 support. There’s also more understanding of code with the addition of Introduce parameter refactoring, and support for persistent language injections. Advanced PHP type inference is now supported, and there are new inspections and intentions.

There’s a new inline debugger for PHP, and enhancements to the debugging workflow including the ability to open php.ini from settings. Debugger config validation has also been enhanced.

Mikhail Vink summarizes the new features of the IDE in this short video:

Developers working remotely can make use of remote edit, so that individual files can be opened directly from the remote host such as FTP, SFTP or FTPS, and edited in the IDE without adding or downloading them to the local project. Remote support for PHP Code Sniffer and Mess Detector has also been added via remote PHP interpreters.

Frameworks and tools have also been improved, and new and updated third-party plugins are available in the PhpStorm plugin repository.

The JavaScript support has been completely reworked, so developers can make use of web technologies including application dependency diagrams, tracing languages transpiled to JavaScript, and V8 profiling for Node.js apps.

Many of the improvements to PhpStorm have been borrowed from the IntelliJ Platform, including Distraction Free Mode, VCS improvements, updated database tools, and HiDPI support for Windows and Linux.

If you don't already use PhpStorm a free 30-day trial is available.

Not really random. Not even pseudo random, more stuff that caught my attention and that I, for one, would like to be given. And, yes, if I'm not given them, I'd probably buy some for myself.
