| Oracle Introduces Low-Code Cloud Dev Platform |

Oracle has announced a cloud-based, low-code development platform called Project Visual Code. Low-code systems are rapid application platforms that require little hand coding, and that are designed to offer rapid setup and deployment. Project Visual Code is described as enabling: "business users to innovate in tandem with IT. It enables business users to extend and enrich off-the-shelf applications and build new solutions that can increase business efficiency and drive better results.” The system includes a library of user interface components and complete applications that are available in the Oracle Cloud Marketplace to add features that can be embedded directly into their own applications. Project Visual Code is made up of an application builder, UI design system,business objects and an application marketplace. The builder can be used to create and host Web and mobile business applications that integrate reusable UI components and external services.
The UI Design System supports multi-channel applications, and can make use of components created using Oracle's JavaScript Toolkit. It has a WYSIWYG page editor that enables the dragging and dropping of UI components onto pages, and those components can then be connected by dragging and dropping to data objects.According to a blog post where the system was discussed, "These data objects can be created on the fly as an integral part of the interface development. Users can create applications with multiple pages, multiple related data objects and rich UIs." The Business Objects element of the system refers to applications built over REST based services, or objects created for custom data requirements. Oracle says these can be created by users, along with validation rules, or that business users can: "take advantage of Project Visual Code’s scripting capability to define any rule their business requires." The Application Marketplace is where customers and partners can access, share and sell complete applications as well as functional UI components with specific capabilities. The marketplace supports public catalogs containing components and applications for general sale, along with private catalogs that organizations can use to create an internal repository of shared resources to be used among various departments. However, the marketplace is currently not released. |
