Entity Developer 6.0

A new visual ORM designer for Entity Framework Core and Telerik Data Access has been released by Devart for developers who prefer a visual approach.

Entity Developer can be used to develop ORM models for ADO.NET Entity Framework, NHibernate, LinqConnect, Telerik Data Access, and LINQ to SQL. You can use Model-First and Database-First approaches to design your ORM model and generate C# or Visual Basic .NET code for it

The developers say that they created the designer because they feel many people prefer visual ORM model development, and this group can no longer work in their preferred way. Telerik deprecated its visual designer and Visual Studio tools for its ORM, and Entity Framework also has dropped its visual model designer in favour of a code-only mapping solution.

The new Entity Developer 6.0 fully supports both the database-first and model-first approaches. It updates the ORM model from the database,  and the database from the model.

The designer has tools for visually creating ORM models and for generating code for context, entities, and mapping. If you are working with Telerik Data Access, you can import existing Telerik Data Access visual designer models (*.rlinq) to make migration easier.

The designer comes with a number of T4-like templates, and the developers say it has features that were not available in original Telerik Data Access visual designer, including model refactoring, more convenient visual editors, LINQ query execution against Telerik Data Access models, and more enhanced model generation from the database.

Entity Developer also offers advantages over EDM Designer for Entity Framework, with support for Table-per-concrete type (TPC) mapping; unmapped abstract types; query views; and model-defined functions.
