Amazon has overhauled the landing page for the Amazon Developer bringing together all the opportunities for developing on Amazon's range of platforms and technologies. There's also a new standalone Amazon Appstore for Android.

Announcing the redesign on Amazon's Appstore Blogs, Sharon Shapira explains that its intended to improve the developer experience and makes it easier to select the area you are interested it and navigate to it. A question mark icon also gives quick access to support  including forums, knowledge-based articles.

She also points out:

You will also notice that after you sign in to your account you will return to the place where you left off, so you will never lose your spot. You can click on Developer Console or Your Alexa Dashboards at any time to access the post-login experience and manage your digital products.

Of the the five areas that it lets you access, Alexa is currently the one that gets the most attention given Amazon's push to control the voice-controlled arena. At the other end of the scale is Dash, which is admittedly a bit futuristic. If you've not come across it Amazon's Dash Replenishment Service (DRS) allows connected devices to leverage Amazon's retail platform to build automatic reordering experiences for your customers - something Whirlpool washing machines do so that you never run out of detergent.

If you are a sporadic visitor to the Amazon Developer site who hasn't kept up with Amazon news, you may wonder why there is no icon for Amazon Underground, which encouraged devs to bring apps they had already published on Google Play, Apple iTunes or Microsoft's App Store, to Amazon where they would be free to customers while devs would be paid. The short answer is the Amazon closed this program earlier this year.

Amazon does have recent good news for developers with its "all-new standalone Amazon Appstore mobile app for Android"

According a post from Rena Watanabe on the Appstore blogs:

The new mobile app is redesigned from the ground up, allowing customers to enjoy the same apps and games that they engage with on Fire TV and Fire tablets on their mobile phones.

As well as making it easier for users to discover apps and games, the app also helps them buy and manage Amazon Coins. For developers the benefit is a potentially larger audience for your apps. If you are already an Appstore developer who has selected to distribute your apps on “All other Android devices”, your app will automatically be available to customers using the new Amazon Appstore. If not it's easy to to make this change.

Since joining the Amazon Developer program is free, the redesigned portal and the new Amazon Appstore app for Android are just additional incentives to try it out.
