The Small Business Hackathon London takes place February 24-25th at CodeNode in the heart of London's Tech City. It's an intense team event in which Intuit challenges you to create a solution that saves a small business time or money over the space of 24 hours. The organizer of the event is Intuit Developer which describes its mission as being: to help entrepreneurs and developers build solutions for the millions of small businesses worldwide. Intuit's flagship product is QuickBooks which: counts on innovative developers to help us improve the lives of small business owners everywhere. This video of last year's events highlights the key features of an in-person hackathon from the point of view of the participants and the organizers:
For the latter running hackathons can result in new solutions, that would otherwise takes months to build, emerging over the course of 24 hours! As the video suggests for developers the #SmallBizHack is an opportunity to get stuck into purposeful coding with no distractions about where your next meal is coming from. Saturday's schedule includes Lunch, Dinner and a Midnight Snack; Sunday's has Breakfast and Lunch. And all this is in addition to the prizes:
The hackathon is open to everyone 18 or older who wants to design, code, and build new and innovative apps that target small businesses as a team effort with up to four team mebers. You can attend as a ready made team or team up with others at the event. You can use the language of your choice and don't have to use the QuickBooks APIs although you might be considered you for an extra prize if you do. Doors open on Saturday, 24 February at 09:00 and the first 25 participants to check-in at the door will receive a Google Home Mini. This Hackathon is being held in conjunction with QuickBooks Connect London 2018, aimed at accountants and small businesses, which follows on February 27 - 28. A similar Small Business Hackathon is scheduled on May 19-20 in Sydney Australia ahead of the QuickBooks Connect 2018 there.
