Apple has announced that WWDC 2016 will take place in San Francisco June 13-17 and you have until  Friday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. PDT to apply for tickets, which will be allocated through a random selection process.

Like last year, Apple is again offering up to 350 Scholarships, giving talented students the chance of a free ticket and, for up to 125 recipients, travel assistance.

The opening keynote for WWDC will be held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. In previous years has offered previews of new OS X and iOS versions during this keynote and we can also expect news for watchOS and tvOS.

Looking forward to this year's event Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said:

“With four innovative operating systems and a new, intuitive programming language powering over 1 billion devices worldwide, there has never been a more exciting time to bring our developer community together. WWDC 2016 is going to be a landmark event for developers who are coding in Swift, and building apps and products for iOS, OS X, watchOS and tvOS. We can’t wait for everyone to join us — in San Francisco or through the live stream.”

The remainder of conference, held at Moscone West  is going to involve over 1,000 Apple engineers supporting more than 150 hands-on labs and events to:

provide developers with code-level assistance, insight into optimal development techniques and guidance on how they can make the most of iOS, OS X, watchOS and tvOS technologies in their apps.

Also on the schedule are the Apple Design Awards and:

engaging and inspirational lunchtime sessions with trailblazers and influencers from the worlds of technology, science and entertainment.

The WWDC 2016 Website is now open with a "Hello" theme.

The site's Register section is where you can apply for tickets costing $1599. To apply for one sign in with your Apple ID and if you’re successful in the random draw the default credit/debit card associated with it will be automatically charged.

Last year's event was the first to use random selection and it resulted in 80% of attendees being at WWDC for the first time with more than 70 countries being represented.

If you are full or part-time student or member of a STEM organization and 13 years of age or older you have until Sunday, May 1 at 5:00 p.m. PDT to submit a scholarship application. To do this you need to:

submit any app you have worked on that demonstrates creative use of Apple technologies and runs on an Apple platform. Your submission may be a school project, a project you've built on your own, or an app that is available on the App Store. You will also need to answer an essay question about your coding process and provide proof of enrollment from your school or proof of membership from your STEM organization.

If you cannot attend in person, sessions from WWDC will be live streamed and video of all of them will be posted. You can watch on the web or in the WWDC app.
