Extra Challenges in Imagine Cup 2012 |

Microsoft has announced two additional challenges for Imagine Cup 2012, Windows Azure Challenge and Windows Phone Challenge, which will be run and judged online.
Microsoft kick started the Imagine Cup 2012 last month when it announced the theme for the year: Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems. and changed the structure for next year's competition, as outlined in a previous news item.
The finals of the main student competitions, including Software Design and Game Design, will take place in Sydney, Australia next July, but the winners of the Windows Azure Challenge and the Windows Phone Challenge will be already have been chosen. The top three teams from each will receive an expenses paid trip to the worldwide finals to be presented with their prizes:
to be divided equally among each officially registered member of the team, which can consist of one individual and up to four. For both the Windows Azure Challenge and the Windows Phone Challenge, which is sponsored by Nokia, students are challenged to develop socially conscious apps related to the overall theme of using technology to solve tough problems such as ones prompted by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals that will be judged on functionality, utility and user experience. There are two rounds in each competition. Round 1 - Concept Design is open now until 13 March and only the teams that complete it successfully will continue to Round 2 - Applications Submission. There are detailed rules and the tools needed for submission in the Rules and Regulations and the eligibility rules are the same as for the whole Imagine Cup competition.
Participation in this competition. really does gives students an opportunity to make a difference to both their own and other people's lives. Since the Imagine Cup began in 2003, student teams have come up with inventive and innovative solutions, many of which are in use today. You may feel that all the good ideas have already been used up - but for the Windows Phone Challege there's an etra resouce. Nokia is helping students get started by offering suggestions already available in areas such as education, health and environment on the IdeasProject website.
